This weekend’s project was building door stops for the cellar door and installing them on the jamb. I ripped each stop from a 2×4 and then cut a kerf to accommodate weatherstripping. I couldn’t use standard moulding because the latch side of the 5-inch-thick door is beveled so that it can clear the jamb. That bevel makes it narrower on the inside and necessitated a 1 inch thick stop on that side. Next time I’ll give it a lick of paint. #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking

This weekend I got the door and jamb painted, installed the jamb, and then hung the door with the help of my brother and a friend. With the door hung, it feels like I actually finish this project someday! #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking

I made more progress on #ProjectWineCellar. Last trip up, I routed hinge mortises in the door and door jamb. #wine #woodworking

It’s been a while since I posted an update on #ProjectWineCellar. Current status is that I’m trying to finish up the insulated door. I filled my door frame with foam board insulation, added a skin of 1/4″ plywood, and then added trim for appearance. The result is a 5 inch thick door, insulated to R-21, that looks like all the other old doors in house. Next step: Hinges. #wine

I got the first layer of foam insulation installed in the door and sealed with spray foam (to form a vapor barrier). Trimming the spray foam took longer than expected, so the rest of the insulation will have to wait until next time. #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking

Blocking, take two. Now on the latch side where I can actually screw into it when adding knobs and a hasp. All in all, if I had to screw up the door, this is about the best possible way to screw it up. It will all be hidden inside the door and it doesn’t really hurt anything. #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking

Well crap. I just realized that I glued the blocking to the wrong side of the door. I glued it to the hinge side instead of the latch side where it belongs. The glue is set, and they aren’t moving, so I guess I’ll do it all over again, only on the right side this time. Ugh. ?‍♂️ #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking

Got blocking for the doorknob and hasp glued into the door frame. Everything is clamped into place, so now I’ll let it dry overnight. Hopefully I’ll be able to cut insulation tomorrow. #ProjectWineCellar #wine #woodworking
